When you're talking about celery you probably mean celery stalks. Germans would call this Staudensellerie.
When Germans talk about Sellerie they are talking about the whole plant. Usually they are talking about the root, when they say Sellerie.

One of my favorite recipes with celery (Staudensellerie) is Ants on a Log. Very simple: You cut up celery stalks fill them with peanut butter and top this with raisins. Of course you're free to think up millions of variations of this.
