Die Glocken fliegen nach Rom, sagt man in Deutschland, wenn an Gründonnerstag die Kirchenglocken ein letztes Mal geläutet haben. Das Schweigen der Glocken symbolisiert die Trauer um Christi Tod am Kreuz.
In der Osternacht, wenn die Auferstehung gefeiert wird, läuten sie dann wieder.
Mancherorts sollen die Glocken auch schon an Palmsonntag, also am Sonntag vor Ostern aufgehört haben zu läuten.
Aber auf jeden Fall sind sie am Ostersonntag wieder von ihrer Romreise zurück ;-)
In some parts of the world people say during the wek before Easter that
the church bells have departed to Rome and young kids run around with clappers and rattles to replace the ringing of the bells.
Anyway, if the ringing is still done by hand, the ringer has a few days off.
Jedenfalls hat der Glöckner ein paar Tage frei.
