Röcke

der Rock,  pl. Röcke (skirt) was originally a garment worn by both sexes.
Until the middle of the 20th century the term Rock for a garment was still used by elderly Germans for a man's coat.
Today in Germany the term Rock refers to a woman's garment that hangs from the waist down and covers all or part of the legs. In Switzerland it's also a synonym for das Kleid (dress).

"Whisky on the rocks" the term is also used in German. Der Ausdruck "on the rocks" wird auch im Deutschen gebraucht.

You would not say "water on the rocks", but rather ice water or iced water. Bei alkoholfreien Getränken verwendet man den Ausdruck nicht.
