Handwerker

Ich hatte letzte Woche Handwerker im Haus. Last week I had workmen in the house. I had the window and doors between living room and balcony replaced. Ich ließ das Fenster und die Türen zwischen Wohnzimmer und Balkon erneuern.

The German expression die Handwerker (im Haus) haben is often used to explain why you didn't or don't have time to do the things that are expected of you.
"Ich konnte gestern leider nicht kommen. Wir hatten die Handwerker im Haus."
"Nächste Woche geht nicht. Da haben wir die Handwerker."
